    Avery E. Slater, 87, of 105 Meadowview Drive, Central Square, died Friday at Crouse Hospital.

    Born in the hamlet of Texas, Oswego County, he lived in Sodus and Lacona before moving to Central Square 24 years ago. He was a carpenter more than 50 years and was a member and past president of the Mia Senior Citizens and the Central Square Senior Citizens and Parish Senior Citizens.

    Survivors: His wife of 66 years, the former Agnes M. Stafford; a daughter, Marlea Stannard of Ocala, Fla.; a son, Neil A. of Central Square; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

    Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central Square Community Church. Calling hours, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Watson Funeral Home, 631 S. Main St., Central Square.

    Notes:

    Neil A. Slater, 78, of Ocala Palms, Florida, and formerly of Central Square, went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2016 at his home in Florida. He was born in Lacona, NY to the late Avery and Agnes Slater. Neil owned Slater Insurance Agency for 33 years, retired in 1999 and moved to Ocala Palms in 2000. While living in Central Square, Neil served as a Trustee on the Central Square Village Board and served on St. Michael's Parish Council. Neil was a member of Ocala Palms Men's Golf Association and a former communicant of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Surviving are his daughters, Peggy Cerone of Baldwinsville (Mike) of Brewerton, and Terri Marsh (Roger) of Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Herb (Kay) Snyder, Coraopolis, PA; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Also left behind is Neil's loving companion, Della Lastooka. Neil is predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Sylvia; sister, Marlea Stannard; and in-laws Herbert (Anna Mary) Snyder. Visitation will be 4-7PM Friday September 9, 2016 at Watson Funeral Home, 631 S. Main Street, Central Square. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10AM Saturday September 10, 2016 at Central Square Community Church, 833 US Route 11, Central Square, followed by burial in Hillside Cemetery, Central Square. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Project Bloom, PO Box 444, Central Square, NY 13036. Project Bloom is a nonprofit, all volunteer project with a mission of making Central Square a beautiful place to live. Please earmark donation for the restoration of the butterfly garden at Goettel Park.

    Marlea Stannard, 74, of West First St, Fulton died Thursday at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Lacona, NY the daughter of Agnes Slater of Central Square, and the late Avery Slater. Mrs. Stannard has been a resident of Fulton for the past seven years. She retired in 1999 from IEC Electric in Newark, NY. Mrs. Stannard was predeceased by her husband Gerald K. Stannard, and her son James Kingsley in 2003. She is survived by her children Jeffrey (PattI) Kingsley of East Syracuse, Steven Kingsley of Warrensburg, Debra (Clark) Smith of VA, Denise Wallon of Fulton, Shari (Harold) Holland of Cato her brother Neil Slater of FL, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday 11:00 a.m. from the Sugar Funeral Home. Burial will be in Springbrook Cemetery. Calling hours will be prior to the service on Tuesday from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home 224 West Second Street S. Fulton.
