He was born at home on May 31, 1931, in Florence, NY, a son of William and Clara Mulvaney Gaffey. He attended a one room school house in Osceola walking to school through deep snow - uphill all the way - to and from school as he liked to tell. He also attended school in Camden .

Bill was also a member of the Teamsters Union Local #182 having been employed at Coleman Brothers Trans Lines from April 1952 until its sale to Red Star Express in 1976 after a devastating fire. Bill was an ace mechanic - taking great pride in his work. “If you aren’t going to do it right -don’t do it.” He retired in 1988 to work on his pride and joy - his log cabin in God’s country. He enjoyed snowmobiling, boating and fishing, 4 wheeling, going out to breakfast on Sunday AM with his buddies and playing cards.

On November 25, 1954 Bill was united in marriage to Joanne Dunn, in St. Mary of the Assumption Church - a union of more than 57 years.
