      Newspaper Obituary - Friday, December 10, 1993 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Karl Clinton Kin Receiving Friends Sunday - There will be no funeral for Karl Clinton, 90, of 521 South Hamilton Street, retired area manager for the Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery in the spring. Mr. Clinton died at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday after being stricken with a heart attack while at the Watertown Medical Center, 826 Washington Street. The family will receive friends at 521 S. Hamilton Street from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Arrangements are with the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to the Samaritan-Keep Nursing Home Memorial Fund. Mr. Clinton donated his body to medical science. Surviving are his wife, Esther, Samaritan-Keep Nursing Home; two sons, Peter M., Media, Pennsylvania., and Nye A., Brewster; five grandchildren; a brother, Marshall, Buffalo; a sister, Marsha Clinton Walters, Eden, and several nieces and nephews. A brother, DeWitt Clinton, died before him. Born May 10, 1903, in Buffalo, son of Marshall and Aleta Evans Clinton, he graduated from the Nichols School in Buffalo and was a 1928 graduate of Cornell University, Ithaca, with a degree in civil engineering. For the next three years, he was with the Curtis Aircraft Co. in Buffalo, leaving in 1931 to join the Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. as an inspector in the gas department in Syracuse. Two years later, Mr. Clinton was promoted to engineer in the company's gas department in Syracuse. In 1935, he became superintendent of the gas department in Rome and in 1939 was transferred to Watertown as assistant superintendent of the gas department. He subsequently became department superintendent and finally Watertown area manager. Niagara Mohawk's Watertown area includes Jefferson and Lewis Counties. From May 1952 to February 1953, Mr. Clinton was on leave of absence to serve with the gas facilities division of Petroleum for Defense in Washington, D.C. He married Esther Atwood in August 1935 in Syracuse. He was past president of the Watertown City School District board of education, the Greater Watertown Chamber of Commerce, the Watertown Safety Council and the Service Corps of Retired Executives. He was also a former chairman of the Jefferson County Community College Scholarship Corporation, of which he served as a director for almost five years, and a former president of the Watertown Community Chest Inc. He was a member of the Black River Valley Club and the Watertown Rotary Club, and was the first director of the Jefferson County Industrial Development Authority.
