    • Newspaper Article - Thursday, February 2, 1893 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mr. and Mrs. Joel Stewart have invited a few of their friends to assemble at the residence, on North Street, on Thursday evening of this week. The occasion is, indeed, a rare one in the life of any married couple. It is not only the sixty-third anniversary of their marriage but it is the eighty-ninth birthday anniversary of Mr. Stewart. We hope for continued years of life and health on the part of this aged couple.

Newspaper Article - Thursday, February 9, 1893 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - 63d Wedding Anniversary - A notable event occurred on North Street on Thursday evening of last week, February 2. It was at the residence of Joel Stewart and was the sixty-third anniversary of their marriage. A large number of invited guests were present and together the host, hostess and daughter, Miss Stewart, and those assembled made the occasion one of much interest and enjoyment. The event, rare as it was of itself, was notable also as being the 89th birthday of Mr. Stewart. He was born February 2, 1804, in Petersburg, Rensselaer County, in this state. For twenty years he has resided in Pulaski, previous to which time he had been extensively and successfully engaged in agriculture, owning a number of farms in this vicinity. Mrs. Stewart is over 82 years of age, and both are in fair health considering their advanced age. Quite a number of beautiful gifts were displayed. Just before the anniversary supper was served the venerable Rev. Lawson Muzzy, at the request of host and hostess, made a pleasant and appropriate little speech. He also greatly surprised Rev. A. Bramley by presenting him on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, with an elegant gold headed cane. That gentleman appropriately responded by saying that he had never before been caned and that it seemed strange that he should now be called upon to submit to that experience from a man 89 years of age. Mr. Stewart was also presented with a gold headed cane, the gift of James Frowd and wife. Joel Stewart and wife have three sons and one daughter now living. There are twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. We wish this couple other wedding anniversaries and hope that their last days shall be "An old age serene and bright."

    • Newspaper Obituary - April 7, 1870 Pulaski Democrat - Died - In Sandy Creek, March 11th, of consumption, Orrin Stewart, aged 35 years. The angel of death has again invaded this family circle for the second time in two years, and has taken away in the prime of his life, yet the fairest flowers bloom and die. But while we regret the loss of one so dear to us, we cannot mourn, for we know that he is happy and has been admitted into the shining courts of Heaven. His fond brothers and sisters have lost a kin and affectionate brother, but he has gone to mingle with those pure spirits above, to join the happy throng that rings the Redeemer's praise forever. When dying he called his friends to his bedside, and bade them all adieu. His request was for them all to meet him in heaven. He lingered for months with disease. The last few weeks of his sickness, his sufferings were indeed great, and he longed to be at rest in his Survivors arms, on the banks beyond the stream, where flowers of fadeless beauty ever bloom. No fear of death invades his mind.
