    • Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, October 6, 1887 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - In Orwell, September 13, 1887, Rosa H., wife of A. R. Bass, aged 4_ years and 8 months. She leaves a husband and four children to mourn her loss. She was a member of the M. E. church and a very earnest Christian. The church and community, as well as the family, have met with a great loss.

    • 49. Alice Rosa Bass Austen - 1868 - January 21, 1956. Daughter of Allen Rowland and Rosanna Waggoner Bass. Wife of Dr. Frederick Austen. Married July 30, 1912 at Niagara Falls, Welland County, Ontario, Canada. [Note: Frederick Austen was born November 23, 1849 in Oswego, New York, a son of Benjamin and Catherine Austen. On March 31, 1876 in Oswego, New York, Frederick married Julia A. Greene, a daughter of Robert and Julia Greene. Julia Greene Austen died August 18, 1911 at Oswego, New York. Frederick died August 2, 1928 in Lacona, New York; he is buried with Julia in Riverside Cemetery at Oswego, New York.] Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 2, 1956 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mrs. Alice Austin of Lacona Dies - Last rites for Mrs. Alice B. Austin, widow of the late Dr. Fred Austin, of Lacona, were held January 23 at the Weston & Woodard Funeral Home in Sandy Creek at 2 p.m. Christian Science Reader, Daniel Ward, of Watertown, presided. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery at Orwell with Richard Mandigo, Stanley Getman, Harold Getman and Everett Schneider acting as bearers. Mrs. Austin died January 21 at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in Adams where she had been a patient more than six years. Surviving are a stepson, Fred Austin of Lacona; one sister, Mrs. Betsey Groat, of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; a brother, Samuel A. Bass of Lakeland, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Austin, a former physician of Lacona died August 2, 1928. Mrs. Austin was born in Orwell, the daughter of Allen and Rosa Waggoner Bass. She attended schools in Orwell, later going to Lacona to open a millinery business which she conducted many years. On July 30, 1912 she was married to Dr. Austin in Niagara Falls.

      Mrs. Alice B. Austen, for many years a resident of Lacona, passed away January 21, 1956 in Hillcrest Nursing home, Adams. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Orwell. Mrs. Austen was born in Orwell, the daughter of Allen and Rosa Waggoner Bass. She made her home in Orwell until going into the milliner business in Lacona, which she conducted for 26 years. July 30 1912, in Niagara Falls she married Dr. Fred Austen, former Lacona physician,
      who passed away August 2, 1928. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Bessie Groat one brother, Samuel R. Bass, Florida; a step-son, Frederick Austen of Lacona. Another sister, Mrs. Anna B Weed, passed away May 19, 1947. Mrs Austen was a member of the Mother Church, of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass. Mrs. Austen had the serenity of spirit and calm acceptance of life's happenings that accompany a love of nature and the out-of-doors.
