Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday September 25, 1935 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mrs. Grant G. Edick Succumbs To Long Illness - Long Prominent In Local - Church and Social Life - Funeral This Afternoon - In the death of Mrs. Grant G. Edick at the family home on North Jefferson street, early last Sunday morning, this village loses one of its prominent church and social leaders and a woman loved and respected by a large circle of friends. While her health had been poor the past two years she had kept up an active interest in church and social affairs until last May when she was forced to take to her bed. Julia Mowry was born in the Tyler district, this town, April 3, 1880, a daughter of Oliver B. and Ella Calkins Mowry. She received her early education at Mexico Academy from which she graduated in 1898. She prepared herself for the teaching profession and taught in schools in Union Springs, Daysville and Texas. On December 18, 1902 she married Mr. Grant G. Edick, the wedding taking place at the Mowry home. During the next six years the couple lived on a farm in the southern part of this town, coming to Pulaski January 1, 1909 when Mr. Edick assumed charge of the office of deputy sheriff and jailer to which he had been elected the general election before. They then made their home in the sheriffs residence adjoining the courthouse at that time. On January 1, 1915 they moved to the North Jefferson street residence where the family has since lived. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Edick, George and Willard died when children, and Dorothy died at birth. A son Donald G. Edick, survives. Mrs. Edick was a member of the Methodist church of this village and many of its organizations; Pulaski chapter, Order of Eastern Star; Monday Historical club, board of directors of the Meacham Community Center, and a former member of the Ontario chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. In all these organizations she had taken prominent part as a member and officer in several. Her prominence in church and social affairs won for her a wide circle of friends in this village and surrounding communities. Surviving besides the husband and son, Donald, are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver B. Mowry of Mexico; three brothers, Dr. E. A. Mowry, mayor of Mexico; Court Mowry of Oswego; and two sisters, Misses Ethel and Bessie Mowry, both teachers in schools in East Orange, New Jersey. The funeral will be held at the family home this afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Henry Bridge, pastor of the Methodist church officiating. The Eastern Star service will be in charge of Pulaski chapter with Mrs. Avery C. Orton, matron, officiating. Burial will be in Willis cemetery. The bearers are friends of the family, W. H. Bonner, Frank Brundage, S. J. Cross, Dr. John L. H. Mason, D. Ward, Howard and Clarence Gorman.
