      Watertown Daily Times (NY) - October 1, 1990

      John L. Schneider, 81, of 7510 Delano St., former Town of Richland supervisor and legislator, died at 1 a.m. Sunday at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse.

      The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s the Evangelist Church with the Rev. Anthony Keeffe, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery.

      Calling hours will be 7 to 9 this afternoon and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 7385 Park St.

      Contributions may be made to the Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department building fund, St. John’s the Evangelist Church or Northern Oswego County Ambulance.

      Surviving are his wife, Doris; three brothers, Ferdinand J., Syracuse, Rudolph R., Baldwinsville, and Edwin R., Oneida; four sisters, Elsie Schneider, Kathryn Schneider and Helen VonHoltz, all of Oswego, and Margaret Eron, Camillus, and several nieces and nephews.

      He was born Aug. 21, 1909, in Chicago, Ill., a son of Rudolph and Caroline Fischer Schneider. He moved to Pulaski in 1928, the same year he graduated from Pulaski Academy High School.

      He married Doris Clark of Mexico May 7, 1965, at Park Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank A. Halse Jr. officiating.

      Mr. Schneider was a former supervisor and legislator for the Town of Richland, having served several terms in those capacities. He was also employed as Oswego County highway superintendent for many years, retiring in 1977.

      Mr. Schneider operated Schneider Sales and Service in Pulaski, selling Chrysler products, from 1928 to 1956. He drove school bus for Pulaski Central School for 19 years, and until recently was an Oswego County court assistant at the Pulaski courthouse.

      Mr. Schneider was very active in his community. He was a charter member of both the Pulaski Service Club and the Pulaski Lions Club, and a 50-year member of Pulaski Grange 730.

      A 59-year member and former chief of the Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department, Mr. Schneider marched with the fire department for the 59th consecutive time in Pulaski’s 1990 Memorial Day parade. He was a former 11-year member of Northern Oswego County Ambulance.

      Mr. Schneider was a life member and past president of the Mad River Hunting Club, and was one of the founding members of an airplane flying club which gave flying lessons on Rome Road. He was also a member of St. John’s the Evangelist Church.
