    • Class of 1964 PACS
Erma was born in Richland the daughter of the late Harry & Mabel (Barker) Potter. She was one of a family of seven, having two sisters and four brothers. She grew up on the family farm just east of the hamlet, and attended Richland elementary school. Erma was on the bowling league and worked with the play for two years. Following school Erma went to work in the cafeteria of the Richland school. When the school closed in October 1969 Erma was transferred to Pulaski Elementary School where she worked until retirement in 2003. In 2006 Erma returned to the former Richland School, now Half-Shire Historical Society and again took over the kitchen, as well as general duties as chief curator of the collections. She was elected to the Half-Shire board of Trustees in 2007 and represents the Town of Richland on the board. Half-Shire covers twelve townships in Oswego, Oneida and Lewis Counties and is the largest historical society by membership in the region, focusing on family histories and general research. Erma also volunteers with Rural and Migrant Ministry in Richland, The Oswego County Fair Association, and countless other area groups that need an extra hand. She has hosted large events at Half-Shire for “Screen Free week” each winter break where children are encouraged to visit locations such as Half-Shire and local libraries for diversions that do not require a computer or television. Erma was particularly close to former neighbor and classmate Mary Rombach, and cared for her in her final years. Erma was married to the late Richard Schroeder. Together they had two children, Richard and Kathy. Richard Sr. died in September 2004. Their family has now grown to include nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, most of whom see Erma almost daily. In her free time Erma enjoys crochet, sewing and country dancing. She and Richard once had a camp in the north they spent considerable time at. In recent years she has travelled more frequently with friends and family. One memorable trip Erma took three years ago was an Alaskan cruise.
