      Verda Adele Costello, 70, of 5290 Lincoln Ave. died Thursday at University Hospital, Syracuse, after a long illness.

      A native of Pulaski, Mrs. Costello lived in Mexico 48 years. She retired in 1980 as an account clerk after 20 years with the State University of New York at Oswego. She was a graduate of Pulaski High School.

      Mrs. Costello was a communicant of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church and a member of its Women's Guild, the Mexico Historical Society and the Secretaries Association at SUNY Oswego. She was the Mexico area organizer for several years of the annual Hope Appeal.

      Surviving are her husband, William B.; a daughter, Ann Rockrohr of Hopewell Junction; three sisters, Erma Koenig and Helen Toth, both of Mexico, and Barbara McCullagh of Sandy Creek; and two brothers, Robert Galbraith of Plattsburgh and Lawrence Galbraith of Fulton.

      Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Harter-Olmstead Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, the Rev. Peter Reddick officiating. Burial will be in Mexico Village Cemetery.

      Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 5305 Washington Ave.

      Contributions may be made to the McFee Ambulance Corps.
