    • Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, September 8, 1897 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Orwell - The funeral of Henry Stowell was held last Thursday and was largely attended. The Odd Fellows and members of Post Olmstead and the Woman's Relief Corps attended in a body. Mr. Stowell was sick for the past two years. His disease seemed to baffle physicians. A postmortem was held and the cause was found to be cancer in the stomach. He leaves a wife, one daughter and two sons to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. Revs. T. T. Davies, W. H. Jago, William Hancock, of Maimsville, and T. B. Shepherd, of Oswego, conducted the services. His age was sixty-one.
      Henry John Stowell - May 10, 1831 - August 31, 1897. Military Service: Veteran of the Civil War; Enlisted August 6, 1862 at Orwell, New York for a term of 3 years; Bounty of $50 paid by Oswego County; Mustered in August 25, 1862 as a Private in Company C, 110th Regiment New York Volunteers Infantry; Mustered out August 28, 1865 with Company at Albany, New York, with rank of First Sergeant. Son of Samuel and Polly Jane “Jane” Kilburn Stowell. Husband of Rosella M. Salisbury Stowell (married November 5, 1859 at Williamstown, New York) & Sarah Cornelia Hollis Stowell (married March 16, 1875 at Orwell, New York.] [Note: For more information on Sarah Hollis, please find her in this cemetery listed as “Sarah Cornelia Hollis Stowell Samson”.]
      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, September 9, 1897 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Orwell - The funeral of Henry Stowell took place at the church last week Thursday. A large number of people attended. The Odd Fellows, members of Post Olmstead and the W.R.C. attended in a body. Rev. T. T. Davies, W. H. Jago, W. J. Hancock of Mannsville, and T. B. Shepherd of Oswego, conducted the service. Mr. Stowell was sick for a long time. His disease seemed to baffle all the physicians. A postmortem was held in the cause of death was found to be cancer of the stomach. He leaves a wife, one daughter and two sons to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. Mr. Stowell served three years as a soldier in the late war, and for many years been a Deacon of the Congregational church. He was sixty-one years of age. Interment in Evergreen cemetery in this village.
