      Harold E. Spath Sr., 81, of 27 Broad St., died Wednesday at his home.

      Mr. Spath retired from the architectural, engineering and planning firm of Sargent, Webster, Crenshaw & Folley, Syracuse, in 1984.

      Since his retirement, he had been clerk of works for Hancock Airport, Syracuse, the Liverpool School System, Cato-Meridan Central School and the Development Authority of the North Country.

      Born July 14, 1920, in Richland, son of Herbert J. and Hazel DeGraw Spath, he was a 1938 graduate of Pulaski High School and became a certified electrical engineer in 1939 at Coyne Electrical School, Chicago, Ill. He attended Loyola University, Chicago, and Syracuse University.

      He married Elizabeth Rowell on May 27, 1940. Mrs. Spath died Jan. 10, 1987.

      Mr. Spath was a member of the Gem and Mineral Society of Syracuse, the Lions Club and the Grange, and a member and officer of the U.S. Power Squadron. He was of the Catholic faith.

      Surviving are four sons, H. Edwin Spath Jr., Centre Hall, Pa., Leon Rowell Spath, Queensbury, Bruce Wayne Spath, Virndorf, Germany, and Douglas Franklin Spath, Mount Joy, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. John (Ruthann) Tanner, Lacona; three sisters, Jacqueline Gallagher and Beverly Duerr, both of Pulaski, and Joyce Barclay, Syracuse; a brother, Herbert James Spath, address unknown, 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

      A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Taylor-Vida Funeral Home with lay minister David Tanner officiating. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery.

      Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

      Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the U.S. Power Squadron, Watertown.
