    • Newspaper Article - Thursday, September 9, 1880 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Matrimonial - Sharp-Mahaffy - In Pulaski, September 1, 1880, by Rev. S. Call, Mr. William H. Sharp and Miss Kate J. Mahaffy, both of this town. The above chronicled event took place at the residence of the bride's parents on Mill street, last Wednesday evening, in the presence of immediate friends and relatives of the contracting parties, to the number of over fifty. Among the guests from out of town were Mr. Alex Cropsey, Oswego, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sharpe, of St. Louis. The parlors have been suitably and prettily decorated for the occasion by the lady friends of the bride. A beautiful horseshoe was suspended above the folding doors, and during the performance of the ceremony the bride and groom stood under an elegant floral bell suspended from an equally appropriate arch. The ceremony was performed by Rev. S. Call, of the M. E. Church, to which both of the contracting parties belonged. The presents were many, valuable and appropriate, conspicuous among them was a large handsome family Bible, the gift of Misses L. E. and E. J. Box and Ellen Mitchell. A happier and more pleasurable affair than the Sharp-Mahaffy wedding has seldom, if ever, taken place in town. On Sunday the organ of the Methodist Church bore gratifying evidences of remembrance, Mr. and Mrs. Sharp being both longtime members of the choir. A floral emblem bearing the word, "Joy," in white letters on a dark background, was the gift of Mrs. Lucius Jones; Mrs. Robert Lloyd also presented a handsome vase and flowers. The newly wedded pair have the best wishes of a very large circle of friends, in which the Democrat heartily has a voice.
