      Viola L. Durst, 86, of South Albion Road, died Friday morning in an automobile accident at the corner of South Albion Road and State Route 13.

      She was pronounced dead at the scene.

      Oswego County sheriff's deputies said she pulled her car away from a stop sign on South Albion Road at 8:40 a.m. and drove into the path of a vehicle operated by Joan F. McNitt, 50, Pulaski.

      Deputies said Mrs. McNitt was taken to Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital in Syracuse after complaining of chest pains, but a spokeswoman at the hospital said she was not treated at or admitted to the facility.

      The funeral for Mrs. Durst will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the Rev. Lou Huasele officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

      Calling hours will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Defiance Fire Department, Altmar.

      Surviving are two nephews, Harold M. Little, Watertown, and Ralph W. Little, West Palm Beach, Fla.; a niece, Elinora Burlee, Riverhead; several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

      A sister, Pauline E. Greene, died in 1991.

      Born Feb. 11, 1907, in Altmar, daughter of William and Christie Montondo Little, she graduated from Altmar High School and married Clarence C. Durst March 4, 1958. Mr. Durst died April 18, 1979.

      Mrs. Durst was employed by the Altmar Post office for 32 1/2 years, retiring Sept. 10, 1965.

      She was a member of the Redfield Community Church, the Mistletoe Rebekah Lodge 248, Lacona, and an associate member of Redfield Rebekah Lodge 673. She was also a member of the Redfield Past Noble Grands Club, the Oswego County Rural Carriers Auxiliary, a past noble grand associate of Oswego County Rebekah District 2, and was a member of the Sandy Creek, Orwell and Williamstown senior citizens groups.
