    Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, May 8, 1968 Syracuse Herald-Journal - Syracuse, New York - Pulaski - John P. Brown, 85, of Richland, died late Monday evening at the Evergreen Nursing Home, Williamstown, following a long illness. He was born November 23, 1882, at Redfield and had attended Redfield schools. For many years he was employed by the New York Central Railroad at Richland. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ella Mae Cowles, Geneva and Mrs. Betty Hahn, Syracuse; a son, Earl D. Brown of California, several grandchildren; three brothers, David Brown, Camden, Earl Brown, Dayton, Ohio, Mark Brown, Redfield; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Donovan, Syracuse and Mrs. Charlotte Williams, Remsen, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Foster Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. from St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be at Richland Cemetery. Friends may call at 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
    John was one of the builders of the Mad River Club in Redfield.

    Newspaper Obituary - August 26, 1925 Pulaski Democrat - Mrs. John Brown - Lizzie, wife of John Brown, died, at Richland, Aug. 17. 1925, aged 42 years. She had been a member of the Methodist church eleven years. The end came very suddenly, leaving seven children, also her husband, and parents to morn her loss and while we realize that to her, death means gain, yet to us it seems we need her help and our hearts are heavy. What her absence in the home means we can never understand. God alone can comfort and give peace. We must think of her as in the glory of the morning light, just over the hills, by her happy disposition, love for the home, always looking on the bright side of life.

    Elizabeth may have lost a child between Ella (1912) and Charles (1914). On Charles' birth certificate it indicates he was the 7th child, 5 living. (John Jr. had died in 1905.)

    Newspaper Obituary - September 13, 1928 Sandy Creek News - Isaac Frost, 71, of Oswego county, died last Thursday at his home at Richland following a week's illness. He was born October 15, 1856, at Fulton, and when a child went to Pulaski with his parents, living there for more than 65 years. He has been a resident of Richland many years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jennie Frost, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Mansfield, of Sandy Pond. Funeral services were held from the family home at Richland at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Frank N. Brownell, pastor of the Church of Christ at that place. Burial was in Richland cemetery.

    Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, December 7, 1938 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek N.Y. - Mrs Jennie S. Frost - The funeral of Mrs. Jennie Stewart Frost was held on Tuesday afternoon with burial in Richland. Mrs. Frost was stricken with a shock last Thursday, and never recovered, passing away at the home of D. D. Wheeler, where she has lived for over a year.

    John Brown was a logger who came from upper Canada and settled the Greenborough section of Redfield Township in the early 1800s.
    John ran a store for a time in Littlejohn settlement for land speculator Dewitt Littlejohn. Oswego native Littlejohn was a board member of the Ontario & Western Railroad and served as New York State Assemblyman. When Littlejohn's finances turned sour so did the affairs of the Brown family. John left the area for a time to find work elsewhere and the family split variously to find work in the surrounding cities. John himself was a shoemaker by trade.
    Two photos of the family are known to exist, one a formal photo taken in the 1880s shows the entire family, another taken in front of the family house shows all the children in later years, with Amanda's photo inset.

    John married Amelia Moss in 1845.     Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 2, 1916 Sandy Creek News - James Gilbert Stewart, an old resident of Richland departed this life on February 14, aged eighty-three years. His sickness covered a period of about two years, but at the last was confined to the bed only a few days. His funeral was held on Wednesday at the family home on Orwell street, conducted by a former pastor, Rev. Spencer Bacon Owens, of Sandy Creek, assisted by Rev. S. H. Stokes. Words of comfort were spoken from John 5-24 which means peace and comfort to those left to mourn the death of one who died in the Christian faith. The floral pieces were beautiful and showed the love and respect shown for father and only brother and much honored grandfather. "Not now but in the coming years, It may be in the better land, We'll know the meaning of our tears; Ah, there, some time we'll understand."

    Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, August 7, 1924 Sandy Creek News - Mrs. Lovina Stewart, 80, one of the oldest women residents of the town of Richland died - Wednesday afternoon, Aug.6 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Isaac Frost, Richland. She had been in poor health about two years. Mrs. Stewart, who was widow of Gilbert Stewart(James Gilbert), was born October 20, 1843 in the town of Richland, where she had passed practically all her life. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Richland. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Isaac Frost of Richland, a granddaughter, Mrs. John Brown, also of that, place, and six great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
