    Notes:

Edward Willis Samson - March 8, 1871 - September 25, 1937. Son of Willis Silas and Martha M. Ouderkirk Samson. Husband of Ida Elmira Bush Samson. Married December 21, 1893 in Boylston Township, Oswego County, New York.
Newspaper Article - Thursday, September 30, 1937 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York -Boylston Man Fatally Hurt in Collision - Edward Samson Succumbs after Crash on Wheat Hill Saturday - Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at his late home in Boylston for Edward Samson, 66, who was fatally injured about 2:30 Saturday, September 25, 1937, when his car collided with an oil truck on the curve at the foot of Wheat Hill on the Smartville road about a mile and a half east of Lacona. Mr. Samson, who suffered a crushed chest, punctured lung, a fractured pelvis, double fracture of the jaw and lacerations to his face and head, died in the office of Dr. Harwood L. Hollis about a half hour after the accident. Mr. Samson, who was alone in the car, was returning to his home on the State Road in Boylston where he had been attending to matters concerning a pension he was to receive as a retired railroad carpenter. Rounding the curve at the foot of Wheat Hill a light car, an old model, collided head-on with a heavy oil truck owned by the A & P Petroleum Products Company of Syracuse and driven by Kenneth Wagner, 26, of that city. The truck driver told Sergeant Edward F. Spellicy of the Pulaski sub-station that Mr. Samson’s car was on the inside of the curve; that he, Wagner, attempted to pull far enough to the right to avoid the collision. The heavy _ truck plowed part way up a steep bank on the right and overturned, its driver escaping injury. Mr. Samson, fatally injured when he was thrown against the steering wheel and his chest crushed, was taken to the office of Dr. Harwood L. Hollis by engineer Stillman who lives near where the crash occurred, but died while receiving treatment. The spot where the collision took place is a dangerous one, the road rounding a sharp curve where a high bank shuts off all view of the steep hill beyond, but Saturday afternoon’s accident is the first ever to occur there. A large crowd quickly collected at the scene and remained until late afternoon, when the tank of the truck had been drained and the machine righted and removed. Assistant District Attorney Clarence J. Gorman investigated the accident and announced there would be no inquest. Mr. Samson was born in Orwell, a son of Willis and Martha (Oderkirk) Samson, and his boyhood was passed in that community. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. _ Bush Samson, who is a sister of John and Ira Bush of Pulaski and Alfred Bush of Boylston; three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Straight, Lacona; Mrs. Hazel Joyner, Lacona and Mrs. Dorothy Moore of Lorraine; a son, Harold Samson of Lacona, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His funeral services, held from the Samson home at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. E. D. Carpenter, officiating, were very largely attended, the house being filled with friends while many others stood outside. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery at Orwell. Mr. Samson had lived in Boylston for many years and had a large acquaintance throughout this section, where he was liked and respected by all who knew him.
