Married in 1844, his home has been continuously at the post, and for 44 years in the very house, where he died. Mr. Bentley was very different, but those who became intimately acquainted with him learned to value his excellencies of character and to trust him as a friend. For many years he was a constant attendant at the Baptist church, and had rendered long service as one of the Board of trustees of that church. Occasionally he overcame his great difference sufficiently to speak of his trust in Christ as his personal friend and Savior. He had been in failing health for several years and for some weeks had suffered much, yet his death seemed sudden and unexpected. A large circle of kindred remain to cherish his memory. Of his children, only a son survives, Mr. C. W. Bentley, of Adams. The loved wife remains to mourn his loss, amid her tears thanking God that she had health and strength to care for her husband in his time of weakness and suffering. Funeral services were held at the residence on North street on Monday, December 1st, and conducted by Pastor D. D. Owen, assisted by Rev. L. Muzzy. Many neighbors and friends gathered there to show their respect for the deceased and their sympathy for the bereaved.

Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, July 11, 1878 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - In Pulaski, July 3, 1878, after an illness patiently borne, David Bentley passed gently away. Mr. B. was born in the town of Milton, Saratoga county, February 10, 1798, and had therefore reached the good old age of 81 years, 4 months and 23 days. He was the second in a family of seven brothers. The most of them have been prominent citizens of this section of the country. Only two now survive, Otis, the oldest and the occupant of the family homestead in Saratoga county, and Stephen, a resident of Sandy Creek. When a young man, Mr. B. came to Sandy Creek and taught school a few seasons, but did not locate permanently. During that time, however, his acquaintance with one of his pupils ripened into an attachment, and on the 14th of October, 1822, he was united in marriage to Miss Susan Bennett. To them was granted what falls to the lot of but few wedded couples. Before death separated them they had seen their golden wedding day pass by more than half a dozen years. Several years of their wedded life were spent at his old Saratoga home, and of the children now living, three Addison and Otis Bentley, and Mrs. Charles Hinman, were born there. About 47 years since they removed to Sandy Creek. After a few years residence there they came to this place. Pulaski was their home until Mr. Bentley's death. He built the house in which he died, having occupied it for more than forty years. From it he was borne to his "long home," followed by many neighbors and citizens who respected his moral worth, and by a large concourse of relatives who cherish the memory of a kind and devoted husband, a gentle and loving father, and a firm and faithful friend.
