    Draper Stewart, son of Eathel and Esther Thurber Stewart, was born near Petersburgh in 1808. He came to Oswego County with his parents about 1812. He was married to Mary Look, daughter of Eleanor Paine and Jeremiah Look. She died at the age of thirty-seven and is buried in the Noyes cemetery.     Newspaper Article - August 30, 1928 Sandy Creek News - Draper Stewart, son of Eathel and Esther Thurber Stewart, was born near Petersburgh in 1808. He came to Oswego County with his parents about 1812. He was married to Mary Look, daughter of Eleanor Paine and Jeremiah Look. She died at the age of thirty-seven and is buried in the Noyes cemetery. On September 6, 1850, Draper Stewart was married at Williamstown to Ann Marpole. They lived in the Whitesboro district until 1864 when they moved to the Meacham district. There were twelve children by this marriage : Mary, Draper, Eathel, Prelova(Freelove), Sophie, Edward, Lemuel, Nellie, and Anna lived to through the efforts in its behalf of Mrs. G. D. Wart.

    Newspaper Article - December 1, 1897 Sandy Creek News - Draper Stewart, who died November 6th would have been 90 years old next April. He was the last of a large family who lived to a good old age. He was born in Petersburg, N.Y. and when but a small boy moved with his parents to Oswego county where he lived until his death. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and fifteen children all of whom were at his funeral, nine girls and six boys. The boys acted as bearers and bore him to his last restin place. He was a kind neighbor and of good habits. He loved his home and scarcely ever went away. He was never known to stay away more than one or two nights in the past forty years. He was twice married; his first wife Mary Look of Williamstown and his second wife Anna Marpool of Wales. The first six children are by his first wife, Mrs. C. L. Wilder.     Newspaper Obituary - November 11, 1897 Sandy Creek News - Mr. Draper Stewart, father of Conductor D.H. Stewart, died at his home last Saturday after a painful illness at the age of 89 years. Mr. Stewart had many relatives and friends, as was manifested by the large gathering at his funeral. His funeral was at the Church of Christ, Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. S.B. Stephens assisted by Rev. McPherson singing evangelist.

    Research by Julie Litts Robst - Notes found in a book that was turned into a scrap book at the Pulaski Historical Society - There was more entries on pages in the book, but had been covered over with newspaper articles from the Pulaski Democrat Newspaper. Author of this sketch is unknown. "Ethel Stewart was a descendant of this family. He settled at Petersburg, N. Y., married Esther Thurber. He signed a note with Morgan Thurber (a nephew of his wife) who failed to pay and he had to sell his farm to pay the debt, with what he had left he came to Williamstown, N. Y. The story goes that Morgan Thurber went further west, he killed a young Indian squaw, the Indians catched him and skinned him alive.Ethel Stewart is said to have helped build the first Baptist Church in Petersburg. His wife was very religious, always putting aside her work at sun down Saturday night and resuming it at sun down Sunday night. He was a man respected by all for he is called Esquire Stewart where he is mention in old histories. He was 81 years old when he died. Suppose to be buried somewhere in Oswego County. Son of John Thurber was Benjamin Thurber, mother Mary Thurber. Benjamin Thurber born June 12, 1749 probably near Rehobath, Mass, married Esther Allen of Barrington in 1771, January 5th. Enos Briggs, a cousin of Draper Stewart use to visit him (Draper Stewart). The first children may have been born in Rehobath, Mass. This is mixed with a cousin's record, may not be exact, copied from Massachusetts Soldiers and sailors of the Revolutionary War Volume 5 page 708 - Benjamin Thurber of Rehobath, Putman Co., in Captain Nathaniel Carpenter's company, served 16 days, company marched from Rehobath to Bristol, Rhode Island on the alarm of December 8, 1778. Also the same company and regiment service from July 20, 1777, one month five days at Rhode Island. Including travel to camp at Bristol and from Providence home to Rehobath, also in Captain Joseph Will company, Colonel John Hathaway regiment. Entered service March 14, 1779 discharged April 12, 1779, service 30 days at Howland's Ferry. Also Captain Nathaniel Ides company, Colonel Carpenter's regiment. Enlisted August _, 1779, discharged September 12, 1779 service one month. Travel allowed from camp at Providence, Rhode Island for four weeks in a regiment under Captain Samuel Fisher also Captain Joseph Wilmarth company. Colonel Carpenters regiment marched July 28, 1780, discharged July 31, 1780 service five days on an alarm at Rhode Island. Company detached for six days service and marched from Rehobath to __ and there served under General __. Joel Weaver and wife are buried near Petersburg, on the Thurber place. He was a minister, Joel Weaver Stewart was named after him."

    Stewart Clan Magazine - July 1926 - He was a soldier in the 6th company, Capt. Waterman Clift, 6th CT Regiment, in the Revolutionary war, enlisting 10 May 1775, and being discharged 5 Nov 1775. In the inventory of the estate of Samuel Church 2nd of Colchester, 28 Nov 1787, was a note against Phineas Steward of Little Hoosick NY. He settled first at Stephentown, Rensselaer Co. NY, later moving to Petersburg and owned considerable land in Petersburg and Berlin. All of his family except three sons, Elias, Terry and Latham, moved west to Ohio and Illinois. His wife Mary E. died 23 May 1805, aged 55, and is buried in the Jones Hollow cemetery in Petersburg. His son Elias was administrator of estate and sold a lot in Berlin.

    The Benjamin Thurber Bible record (copied in typescript) from the DAR shows a Peter Thurber and a Dennison Thurber. Neither are children of Benjamin and Esther. Dennison is the great-grandson of Benjamin Thurber, and I don't know who Peter belongs to.
    Benjamin Thurber was living in Williamstown, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts (next to his son, Joseph), found there in the 1810, 1820, and 1830 census.
    Some information from the History of Rensselaer County, by Nathaniel B. Sylvester, states that a Benjamin Thurber established a store in Troy, New York. From land records for Benjamin Thurber, of Providence, Rhode Island, I have discovered that it was a different Benjamin (not my direct line) who established this store. March 2003.

    The Will of Joseph Allen of Barrington, Rhode Island as follows: In the name of God, Amen, I Joseph Allen of Barrington in the County of Bristol, Yeoman, this 12th day of December 1807, being in health of body and of a sound ---- mind and memory blessed by Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament.
    Imprimis: My will is that my just debts and funeral charge be paid by my executor hereafter named---
    Item: I give unto my beloved wife, Joanna Allen, one third of my real and personal estate as her dowery.
    Item: I give unto my beloved son Johnathan Allen thirty dollars to be paid in produce.
