    • Newspaper Article - Thursday, June 5, 1890 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Fifty Years Ago - Last Monday evening a large number of invited guests assembled at the residence of J. W. Runyan. The gathering was in response to a card bearing this inscription: 1840 - 1890. Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Dillenbeck respectfully invite you to attend their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary, at the residence on Church Street, Monday, June 2d, 1890, at six o'clock p.m., Pulaski, New York. This aged couple who have journeyed so long together down life's pathway, were looking remarkably well and received their guests in a cordial and yet unostentatious manner quite pleasant to witness. When refreshments were in readiness, the venerable Rev. L. Muzzy, upon invitation, read a short poem prepared for the occasion, which was very appropriate and well received. After prayer was offered, a nicely prepared collection of great variety was served, concluding with ice cream. In behalf of the assembled guests, Dr. Low, in a jovial, informal way, just before the company departed, presented Mrs. Dillenbeck with over thirty dollars in gold and other money, besides the other presents, amounting, with what had been received since, to about seventy-five dollars. The groom of fifty years was born in Stone Arabia, Montgomery County, New York in 1817, and came to Pulaski in 1834. Mrs. D., whose maiden name was Rua Hinman, was a native of this town and has always lived here. The same year of their marriage, 1840, Mr. Dillenbeck erected the house on Church Street he now owns, and which he has occupied most of the time since that date. Ira Doane, of Pulaski, built it on a contract. For a number of years in the "forties" he traveled for the blank book and paper house of Loomis & Company, of Pulaski. He had customers in Auburn, Syracuse, Utica, Watertown and other towns, and sold paper to very many of the newspapers at the points named. For about eighteen years, Mr. Dillenbeck has kept the restaurant and grocery business in Pulaski. All this and many more items of past history were rehearsed at the golden wedding gathering. One other fact worthy of note is that among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. J. T. McCarty, who has enjoyed wedded life together for over fifty-one years.
