      Brief announcement was made last week of the death of John Henry Filkins which occurred near the Fox School House December 23. Mr. Filkins was born in the town of Williamstown, June 3, 1844, son of James Filkins and Eliza Rich. His mother was from the original settlers in this town and Williamstown and the town of Richland had its original name from the Rich family.

      Mr. Filkins enlisted the 15th of August in the first battalion of the 14th regiment of U.S. Vols. He was discharged the 9th day of February, 1863, when he returned to this town. He married Eliza Y. Perry, April 21, 1864. She died January 9, 1893. The family surviving consists of one daughter, Mrs. P.A. Lilley, Oswego; Perry V. Filkins, Pulaski and Raymond H. Filkins who resides in the Filkins home where the father had lived forty-five years and where his death occurred.

      Funeral services were held from the home Friday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. Mr. L.G. Seamans, chaplain of A.S. Warner Camp, Sons of Veterans, officiating. The bearers were members of the Sons of Veterans Camp.

      Frriends were present from Oswego, Altmar and Pulaski. Burial in Pulaski Cemetery
