Newspaper Obituary - January 27, 1949 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Lacona Garage Owner Dies At His Home - Emil Frederick Weisenburger, 44, Lacona garage owner and a leading Lacona businessman, died at his home at 10 p.m. last night, January 26, 1949, after an illness of about four months. Mr. Weisenburger underwent an operation before Christmas and was brought home from the hospital two weeks ago. Until shortly before his death he had been able to be about the house, and his passing came as a shock to his many friends and associates. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Methodist church, Rev. Herbert Harrison, pastor of Sandy Creek Methodist church, officiating, assisted by Rev. Selden Ward, pastor of the Baptist church, and Rev. Russell Bremer, pastor of the local Wesleyan church. Burial will be in the Willis cemetery on the Mexico road. Prior to the funeral, friends may call at the home Friday evening from 7 to 8:30. At 9:00 o'clock Friday evening there will be a private prayer service, for the family only. Mr. Weisenburger was born at Bridgewater, South Dakota, May 1, 1904, a son of the late Adam Weisenburger and Kathryn Frummer Weisenburger. He lived in South Dakota until the family moved to Pulaski, where he attended school. February 23, 1929, he was married to Miss Kathleen Gibbs, daughter of the late George Gibbs and Kathryn Donovan Gibbs. About 15 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Weisenburger moved from Pulaski to Lacona, Mr. Weisenburger purchasing the garage and two adjoining houses, formerly the Henry Martin and Son property. Since then he had steadily expanded the business. Soon after entering the garage business he started to buy up old cars which he stripped for used parts and for several years operated a junk yard. Later he added a line of electrical and household appliances and at the end of the war acquired the agency for Kaiser-Frazer cars. He also operated a coal business, purchasing this about ten years ago from Hamer & Wagner. Since last fall this part of the business had been managed by his son-in-law, Paul Guyett. About three years ago Mr. Weisenburger replaced the old garage building with a large new modern structure which attracted considerable attention as it was built to enclose the old garage which was not torn down until the new building was ready for use. Ile also remodeled the appliance showroom at that time. He was a member of Sandy Creek Lodge No. 564, F. & A.M., the Sandy Creek Grange, the Lacona firemen, the Pulaski I.O.O.F. lodge and the Sandy Pond Sportsmen's club. He was at one time chief of the Lacona fire department and to this as to all his enterprises, gave enthusiastic service. Genial and possessed of unbounded energy, he had a talent for making friends and was highly regarded in the community. Mr. Weisenburger is survived by his wife, and by three children, Joyce (Mrs. Paul Guyett) of Lacona, Walter and Karen, at home; by his mother, Mrs. Kathryn Weisenburger of Pulaski; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Hatton of Pulaski, and Mrs. Della Whittle of New York City; three brothers, Carl Weisenburger of Pulaski; Alfred Weisenburger, Lacona, and Woodrow Weisenburger, of Gainsburg, and by eight nephews and nieces.
