Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, June 5, 1952 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Rites Held For J. J. Finster, 69 - Jasper J. Finster, 69, former supervisor of the Town of Orwell and Republican leader in the eastern part of Oswego county for many years, died at the Hellenberg nursing home in Pulaski, Monday, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. He had been in poor health for several years, retiring as supervisor during his seventh term because of ill health. Funeral services were held in the Orwell Union church Wednesday at 2 p.m. preceded by a prayer at the home of his son, Clifton, at 1:15. Officiating at the church where the Rev. Kenneth L. Combs, former pastor of Orwell, the Rev. Wesley W. Baker, present pastor, and the Rev. Ernest Otter, pastor of the Furman Street Methodist church in Syracuse. Interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery at Orwell. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Alma) Rutherford of Syracuse; two sons, Robert and Clifton Finster of Orwell; four sisters, Mrs. Marshall Pennock and Mrs. Robert Armstrong of Orwell, Mrs. Leon Dunbar of Richland and Mrs. Jay Clarke of Syracuse; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Finster was born in Orwell July 22, 1882, son of Ward and Elizabeth Hilton Finster. He had been a farmer all his life, living on the Orwell-Lacona road for many years. He was a member of the Welcome Lodge, 680, I.O.O.F., Orwell, and of the Orwell Union church. His wife, Mrs. Lulu Marsh Finster died January 14, 1951.
