  • Notes
    • Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, March 17, 1897 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Orwell - Entered into rest Tuesday morning, March 9, 1897, Mrs. Celia Beecher, aged 79 years. Mrs. Beecher's maiden name was Beadle and she was the last one of the large family that once was the most prominent in this town. She was a child when her father, with a large family, came from Herkimer County and settled on what is still known as the "Beadle farm," two miles south of the village. About sixty years ago she was married to William Beecher who died three years ago. Since that time Mrs. Beecher has been gradually failing in health. She was a woman of good education, large intellect, a great reader and a whole souled earnest Christian. One of the pioneers of the M E. church in this place, her soul and hands were ever in the work for her Master, whom she served faithfully. The Foreign Missionary cause was particularly dear to her heart. The life she lived fitted her so that when death came, she was ready. No preparation had to be made for that event. She had been preparing for it her whole life. She leaves one son, Erwin S. Beecher and a daughter, Mrs. Frank Caldwell and a granddaughter, Frances Howard both of Watertown. Her funeral was held at her late home, Thursday afternoon, her pastor, Rev. W. H. Jago and Rev. T. T. Davies conducted the services. She was laid to rest in the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery near those dear to her in life, her husband, one son, Madison Beecher and daughter, Mrs. Elvira Howard. "Blessed are they who die in the Lord."
