    • Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 12, 1891 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Ridge Road - Mrs. John Moore, who has been very feeble during the past winter, died Saturday night the 8th, at the residence of James Moore. The deceased was the mother of Dewitt C. Moore of Lacona. She was in her 79th year. The funeral took place at her late residence, Tuesday at 10 o’clock. The Rev. Mr. Mitchell conducted the services.

      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 19, 1891 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - A Mother is Gone - Mrs. Betsey Moore, widow of the late John B. Moore, died on the 7th inst. at die residence of her daughter, Mrs. James Moore, and die town of Sandy Creek, Oswego county, New York, in the seventy-ninth year of her age. Mrs. Moore was a daughter of Hezekiah Leigh, she was the eldest of six children and was the last one to depart this life. She was born in the town of Argyle, Washington county, New York, in 1811. When she was fifteen years of age she moved with her parents to the town of Sandy Creek, Oswego county, and settied on the farm where Mr. Ira Oyer now lives. In 1833 she was married to John B. Moore and settled in the town of Boylston, then a wilderness, she there shared the toils, hardships and privations incident to die new country. She resided in that town until the death of her husband in 1882, since then she has lived with her daughter. To her were given seven children, three sons and four daughters, viz.: D. C. Moore of Lacona, New York, Byron Moore, Nuckolls county, Nebraska, Jasper Moore, Mrs. Eliza Hatcliff, White county, Indiana, and Mrs. James Moore, Lacona, Oswego county, New York. The three sons responded to their countries call in the late rebellion. Jasper was killed at the battle of Cold Harbor June 1864. Two daughters died in early life. God grant that all die dear ones may come to life’s closing scene with the same Christian patience and fortitude witii as calm a resignation like full assurance of hope. The funeral services took place from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. James Moore, March 10, 1891, Rev. J. S. Mitchell officiating and discussing from the words “We must surely die.” The interment took place at the Wesleyan Methodist cemetery.
