      Military Rites for Charles Bumpus

      Funeral Services for Charles M. Bumpus, 36, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Bumpus of this village, who died Wednesday afternoon September 14, at Oswego Hospital, were held at the home, 167 East 4th St., Oswego, Saturday September 17, at 2:00 p.m., Rev. J.W. Warren, pastor of the M.E. Church of Pulaski officiating. Internment was made in Pulaski Cemetery,
      Mr. Bumpus was born in Pulaski March 5, 1896 (sic). He was educated in Pulaski High School and graduated from Bryant & Stratton Business college in Buffalo. he was a member of the M.E. Church of Pulaski, was employed at Columbia Mills in Minetto, and was a member of the American Legion Post of that village, also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Ways of Oswego.
      He enlisted at Arcadia, Calif., June 2, 1917 and served over seas in Co. E. 128th Inft. He took part in the following battles: Alsace sector, Chateau Thierry, Soisons and Verdun. We was wounded in the left hip and lower leg and honorably discharged from General Hospital No. #1, Fox Hills, Staten Island, NY August 20, 1919.
      Military Services were held at the grave by Minetto and Pulaski American Legion posts. bearers were: Stanley Brown, Avery Orton, Fred Mahaffy, Allen Hartrick, George Fitzgibbons and Raymond Latour. The firing squad was composed of Rex E. Crandall, W.J. Endersbee, William Gorman, George Dracus, Henry Billhardt, Rolan Balcom, Vernon Caufield and Frank Pierce. Color bearers Frank House and Walter Farnham. Bugler Albert E, Lawrence.
      besides his parents Mr. Bumpus is survived by his wife Florence Buckley Bumpus; one daughter Mary E. and son Charles F.; a brother Francis H. of Syracuse; his grandmother Mrs. Frances K. Steele of Pulaski; tow Uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs L. A. Knowlton, Pulaski and Mr and Mrs. H. J. Knowlton of Utica.
