    • Newspaper Article - Thursday, February 2, 1893 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mr. and Mrs. Joel Stewart have invited a few of their friends to assemble at the residence, on North Street, on Thursday evening of this week. The occasion is, indeed, a rare one in the life of any married couple. It is not only the sixty-third anniversary of their marriage but it is the eighty-ninth birthday anniversary of Mr. Stewart. We hope for continued years of life and health on the part of this aged couple.

Newspaper Article - Thursday, February 9, 1893 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - 63d Wedding Anniversary - A notable event occurred on North Street on Thursday evening of last week, February 2. It was at the residence of Joel Stewart and was the sixty-third anniversary of their marriage. A large number of invited guests were present and together the host, hostess and daughter, Miss Stewart, and those assembled made the occasion one of much interest and enjoyment. The event, rare as it was of itself, was notable also as being the 89th birthday of Mr. Stewart. He was born February 2, 1804, in Petersburg, Rensselaer County, in this state. For twenty years he has resided in Pulaski, previous to which time he had been extensively and successfully engaged in agriculture, owning a number of farms in this vicinity. Mrs. Stewart is over 82 years of age, and both are in fair health considering their advanced age. Quite a number of beautiful gifts were displayed. Just before the anniversary supper was served the venerable Rev. Lawson Muzzy, at the request of host and hostess, made a pleasant and appropriate little speech. He also greatly surprised Rev. A. Bramley by presenting him on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, with an elegant gold headed cane. That gentleman appropriately responded by saying that he had never before been caned and that it seemed strange that he should now be called upon to submit to that experience from a man 89 years of age. Mr. Stewart was also presented with a gold headed cane, the gift of James Frowd and wife. Joel Stewart and wife have three sons and one daughter now living. There are twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. We wish this couple other wedding anniversaries and hope that their last days shall be "An old age serene and bright."

    • Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, November 23, 1904 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Dexter W. Stewart, of Richland, eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joel Stewart, of this village, passed away at his home on the Ridge Road, last Tuesday, aged seventy-four years. He was born in the town of Richland in 1830. Fifty-two years ago he was united in marriage with Miss Harriet Hubbs, who died in 1891. To them were born eight children. When a young man Mr. Stewart commenced the study of law which was to have been his chosen profession. As a student he was industrious, with a keen intellect. His ambitions were for a high place in the profession, but this was not to be. Most of his life was passed on the farm. One beautiful Sabbath day in August, 1904, he opened his heart and let the Divine Master come in and since that time he was happy in the joy that comes from perfect faith and love for the Savior, and worked very hard during his last days to help others to the same belief. He had been in feeble health for some time, and was tenderly cared for by his son, Cyrus Stewart, and family, with whom he resided for the past three years. Mr. Stewart is survived by a son and three daughters, Cyrus Stewart, Mrs. Eugene Wyman, Mrs. Harriet Wright and Miss Carrie Stewart, all of the town of Richland, also one sister and two brothers, Mrs. Charles D. Clark, of Pulaski, Gilbert Stewart and Wilbur Stewart, both of Richland. The funeral was held at the home, Friday afternoon, at one o'clock and an hour later at the Methodist church, at Richland, Rev. W. J. Cross, of Orwell, officiating. Those from out of town to attend the funeral were, Mrs. Fred Secor, of Syracuse, Mr. and Mrs. John Hubbs, of Lacona, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Hill, of Pulaski.
