He married MARIE JOSEPHTE GERVAIS February 27, 1775 in Chateaugay, Quebec Canada, daughter of GABRIEL GERVAIS and MARIE LEBOEUF. She was born 1754 in Chateauguay, Quebec, Canada, and died January 06, 1841 in Stormont, Ontario.

Listed on the 1809 map as a tenant of Concession 1-lot 3 of the Indian Lands. ( This map shows John Taillon and J. Gesman listed as a tenants of Concession 2- lot 4 of the Indian Lands. Joseph is listed as from the 2nd Concession, Indian Lands in 1814.
In the Christian Guardian "Death Notices" 23rd May 1838, TIO (sic) Joseph, who fought against Wolfe at the Battle of Quebec, died at Cornwall: age 100, survived by his wife, 17 children, 108 grandchildren and 77 great grandchildren. This notice seems to be attributed to Joseph, but there is a conflict for the age at death.
