  • Notes
    • Louis Jr. was born in Canada in 1830, a time when there was turmoil in Quebec, Canada. The English were trying, and in later years, succeeded in taking over Canada from France. It was during this period many French residents of Canada migrated to the U.S. They did not want to live under the English monarchy and most men fled Canada because they did not want to serve in the French military.
Louis's parents migrated to the U.S. in 1857 and settled in Malone, N.Y. Louis was married to Elizabeth and probably immigrated with his parents.
On the 1860 census of Malone, N.Y., Louis is listed as Lewis Lamaka, the same as his father was listed. Louis lived just a few houses away from his parents Louis and Marguerite and his brother Joseph. He was working as a day laborer and two of his children, Louise at age 4 and Michael at age 1, who is also listed as "Maglor" on the 1870 Malone census report, were living at home.
On the 1870 Malone census report, Lewis was working as a farm laborer and the number of his children grew to 7. Louis was at age 36 and Elizabeth was listed at 30 years old, which is not correct. Her actual age should have been 34. The children living at home were; Louisa at 14, Maglorium, listed as Maglor at age 12, Phillip at age 9, Isarel, listed as Esweill at age 7, Adolphus, listed as Dolphus at age 4, Jeremiah at age 2 and Lewis at age 1.
The 1880 Malone census Listed Louis at age 50 and Eilzabeth at age 48. Their age actually should have read Louis, 46 and Elizabeth age 44 years old. Louis was now working as a laborer at the Malone Paper Mill. His son, Riley, was also working at the paper mill. The children still living at home with their parents were; Richard, who is actually Michael, who was also listed as "Maglor" at age 22, Phillip at age 19, Riley at age 18, Adolphus, listed as "Dolfey" at age 15, Jerry at age 12, Lewis was now 10, Lena at age 6, Gilbert at age 3 and Amos at age 2.
Louis was age 81 on the 1910 census report and his wife Elizabeth was age 76. Their son Gilbert and three of his children, Julius, Rosa and Armenia were living with Louis and Elizabeth. Gilbert was widowed and had not married a 2nd time yet. There was a nephew of Louis and Elizabeth, Julius Morse at age 28, living there also.
