    • Newspaper Obituary - April 6, 1896 Daily News - Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania - Death Makes Claim - Two Well-Known People Pass Beyond - E. Samuel and A. Martin - The Close of Eastertid Witnesses Sorrow in Several Local Households - Since the solemn closing of the Easter Sabbath persons well-known in this vicinity have been removed from the material to the spirit world, both being old residents of this region. They are Edmund Samuel, of Ashland, father of Dr. E. W. Samuel, of Mt. Carmel and A.B. Martin of Mt. Carmel. - Edmund Samuel - Edmund Samuel, father of the Mt. Carmel physician of that name, died at Ashland at ten o'clock this morning, aged 61 years. He was born in Wales, May, 1835, and came to this country in 1861, locating at Wilkes-Barre. A little later he located at Ashland, where he and the family have since resided. His wife preceeded him in death about a year ago. The deceased was one of Ashland's most highly respected citizens and for many years and until the time of his death was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church. For quite a number of years he as a mine foreman and for several years since the passage of the act creating that body had been a member of the mine examining board. His coninuous connection with mining brought to him the physical evils that so often affects the miners, and he suffered from asthma, this being largely responsible for his sickness and death. He had a large acquaintance, and many in Mt. Carmel who knew him will be pained to learn of his death. Mr. Samuel's was a member of the Masonic fraternity, and under their direction the funeral services will be conducted, augmentary to those of the Methodist church. The time of the funeral has not yet been determined at this writing. There are surviving him these children. Dr. Edward W. Samuel and Mrs. S.H. McConnell of Mt. Carmel; Thomas Samuel of Philadelphia; Dr. William Samuel, of Gilberton; Misses Mellie, Emily and Gertrude, of Ashland.
