    • Online Obituary - Marjorie J. "Marge" DeLong April 21, 2011 Marjorie J. "Marge" DeLong, 82, of Mexico, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2011, at St. Luke's Health Services, Oswego. Born in Palermo on June 30, 1928 to Robert and Adella Rill Flint, Marjorie graduated from Mexico Academy & Central Schools in 1946. After losing her 1st husband, Grant L. Sanderson, in a tragic accident in 1949, Marge obtained her license as a Registered Nurse from the House of the Good Samaritan Hospital, Watertown. It was while attending nurses' training that she met, and later married Charles E. DeLong on September 13, 1952. Together, they operated a family dairy farm on Cole Road where Marge resided for many years. Marge loved her family and community. While her children were young, she provided private duty nursing for many families in the Mexico area. In later years, Marge accepted a position with Oswego County BOCES, where she served as a nursing instructor in the Licensed Practical Nurse Program for nearly 27 years. In May, 1984, she received her BSN from SUNY/Utica-Rome. She was a member of the Mexico United Methodist Church, NYS Teacher's Association, NYS Nurses' Association, Oswego County HOSPICE Volunteers and the Victoria Chapter OES. Marge enjoyed traveling, the theatre and the company of good friends. She was a vibrant woman who cherished her role as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Delong and a granddaughter, Katelyn DeLong. Surviving are a brother, R. Richard (Darlene) Flint; her children, Grant (Rita) DeLong, Earl (Muriel) Delong, Rebecca (Roger) Vrooman, Julie (David) Scott; grandchildren, Robert, William, Frank, Andrew, Jessica, Kelly, Patrick, Benjamin, Michael and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Brendon, Connor, Matthew and Alan. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2011 at the WATSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 631 So. Main St., Central Square. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Mexico United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions will be used for a nursing scholarship to be established in Marge's name.
