    • Newspaper Obituary - December 15, 1921 Sandy Creek News - John Hubbs - The eastern part of the township of Sandy Creek as well as the village of Lacona lost one of its oldest citizens in the death of John Hubbs on Monday Dec 12. He had been in failing health for sometime and had been confined to his home. The first ancestor of John Hubbs to settle in this country came from Holland with his parents when a small child and settled with them on Long Island, When a young man he married and moved to Jonesville, Saratoga County, where he purchased several hundred acres of land and became one of the pioneer settlers of Saratoga County. He died in 1804, leaving his land to his son, John, who died there in 1850 leaving twelve children, among them Cyrus Hubbs, who was born January 15, 1804. He moved to the town of Sandy Creek and settled on the Ridge Road. He had a large family of children, of whom John Hubbs who died December 12th and was buried on the 14h, and Rev. C.M. Budlong, rector of the Emmanuel Church were the last survivors except a brother, George L. Hubbs of Pulaski. John Hubbs was born June 1832, and would therefore have been ninety years of age had he lived until June next. He married Phila Harding, a member of the Harding family of this town. She died about five years ago. They never had any children. After Mrs. Hubbs death, Mr. Hubbs lived in his old home at Lacona with H.H. Chapman, a relative of his wife, and whome he had brought up as a boy. Mr. Hubbs memory was remarkable and it was very interesting to hear him narrate his recollections of early days of eastern Oswego County.
