    • Newspaper Article - Thursday, May 21, 1891 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Sand Bank - On the 12th inst., a quiet wedding took place at the residence of Hon. D. J. Clement when his stepdaughter, Esther Prouty, was given in marriage to his nephew, Walter Clement, of Ontario. The guests were numerous and the gifts many and beautiful, consisting of silver, china and linen, which spoke well for the estimation in which Miss Esther was held by her many relatives and friends. We were complemented with a liberal supply of cake of a superior quality.

Walter Clement, 65, for many years a resident of the Orwell road and a former local pastor of the Vorea church, died Monday night December 2, 1935, in Rome hospital following an emergency operation performed November 23. For the past 15 years he had served the Taberg Methodist Episcopal church as well as the Lee and Blossvale charges. Rev. Clement was a native of Canada where he was born November 25, 1870, and came to this country at the age of 18, spending many years as a farmer before he decided to study for the ministry. He lived in Watertown for two years and then moved to Altmar where on May 18, 1891 he married Miss Esther M. Prouty. He lived on a farm on the Orwell road for many years and while in this section preached at the Vorea church and other nearby localities. In April, 1920, he moved to Taberg and had served there since. He was a member of the Masonic lodge of Vienna and of the Taberg village band, which was widely known throughout the Mohawk Valley. Since his illness, Superintendent Holmes has assigned Rev. A. S. Havens, Richland, to take charge of the three Methodist churches formerly served by Rev. Clement, until a regular appointment is made. Rev. Clement is survived by his wife and four children, Mrs. Don Elkins, Orwell; J. D. Clement, Lacona; Carl H. Clement, of Shortsville; and Durl P. Clement of Taberg; two brothers, William Clement of Watertown and Joseph Clement of Bath, Ontario; a sister, Mrs. Schuyler Smith of Collins Bay, Ontario, and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Taberg church this afternoon, with Rev. H. D. Holmes, D.D., superintendent of the Ontario district of the Northern New York conference of the Methodist Episcopal church, officiating. Burial was in Orwell cemetery.
