      Earl D. Elkin, 71, Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Orwell, died Tuesday at Holmes Regional Hospital, Melbourne.
      The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the Rev. Elizabeth Mowry officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell.
      Calling hours were are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Orwell Fire Department.
      He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; two daughters, Patricia Potter, Orwell, and Jean Taplin, Richland; six grandchildren; a brother, Harry, Lacona, and two sisters, Marion Kenway, Orwell, and Anna Mae Walker, Brandywine.
      A daughter, Elaine France, died in 1990.
      Born Dec. 8, 1919, in Centerville, son of Donald and Gertrude Clement Elkin, he was graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1940.
      He married Marjorie LaCelle Jan. 18, 1941, in Lacona. The couple had lived since 1964 in Melbourne, where Mr. Elkin was self-employed in various occupations for the past 27 years. He was previously a member of the Syracuse union Local 545, Operating Engineers.
      He was also employed for a time as a bulk milk carrier.
      Mr. Elkin served in the Navy as a deep sea diver from 1943 to 1946.
      He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge 650, F.&A.M., Williamstown, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8191, Melbourne, and a member of the American Legion Post 163 in Melbourne.

      Services for Earl D. Elkin, 71, a former Orwell resident who died Tuesday in Melbourne, Fla., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell.

      Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, 7385 Park St.

      A native of Centerville, Mr. Elkin lived in Orwell before moving to Melbourne in 1964. He was a bulk milk carrier for several years and later owned several businesses in Florida. Mr. Elkin was a 1940 graduate of Sandy Creek High School.

      Mr. Elkin was a former member of Local 545, International Union of Operating Engineers, and a life member of Williamstown Lodge 650, F&AM. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a deep-sea diver. Mr. Elkin was a member of Melbourne Post 8191, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Melbourn Post 163, American Legion.

      Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; two daughters, Patricia Potter of Orwell and Jean Taplin of Richland; a brother, Harry of Lacona; two sisters, Marion Kenway of Orwell and Anna Mae Walker of Brandywine, Md.; and six grandchildren.

      Contributions may be made to the Orwell Fire Department.
