      Samuel Emmons, 96, one of the oldest residents of this area and the next to the last surviving war veteran of the vicinity, died early Friday at his home in the town of Albion. He had been in poor health about a year. Mr. Summons was born in Pillar Point, Jefferson county, July 27, 1840, son of the late Ebeneser and Chloe Emmons. He was a grandson of Samuel McNett, a captain in the war of 1812, for whom he was named For 16 years he was a sailor. At the time the war broke out he enlisted in 1861, in the 24th N.Y. Volunteers, and after the expiration of his time he again enlisted in the lOth N.Y. cavalry, serving until the close of the war. He was in 27 regular engagements and was slightly wounded three times. Mr Emmons was a well know farmer in Albion many years and a former member of the J. Butler Post, G.A.R. now disbanded. Surviving are a daughter Mrs Eva Kohler who made her home with her father and one son Claud Emmons . Burial in Dugway Cemetery with military honors.
