    • William W. Morton - May 23, 1868 - October 10, 1950. Son of William and Arvilla Wright Morton. Section 5, Row 14.
Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, October 11, 1950 Oswego Palladium Times - Oswego, New York - Pulaski - William M. Morton, 82, well known guide and commercial fisherman in the Port Ontario-Selkirk basin area, died Tuesday at the Austin nursing home, Lacona, after a short illness. He suffered a stroke last Friday night and failed to rally. Except for service with the old Life Saving Service at Charlotte, he had always made his home in the vicinity of Port Ontario. He was born May 23, 1868, at Port Ontario near the intersection of the Scenic Highway and the Lake street road. He was the son of William and Elvira Morton, members of pioneer families in the area. The family had always lived near Lake Ontario and had done much commercial fishing in days when fish were really numerous in Mexico Bay. It was a family tradition to serve as a life saver and then turn to fishing. Mr. Morton and his brother, "Lonny" were experts in sturgeon fishing and had their set lines in Mexico Bay from Stony Point to Nine Mile Point, catching and shipping many of these huge fish to the New York market. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Hugh Allen and Mrs. Ernest Stafford, Pulaski; his brother, Alonzo Morton, Port Ontario, and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Foster funeral home, Pulaski, with burial in Daysville cemetery.
