  • Notes
    • Oren or "Ike" Yerdon was a lifelong woodsman in Greenboro section of Redfield Township. The youngest of 4 children, Ike attended Yerdon District School down the road from the old homestead. Ike lived with his Mother until the house burned in March 1937, then in town until his marriage to Alice Adams of Osceola.
After their marriage Ike and Allice lived for a time with Sterling & Marjorie (Bennett) Yerdon before they set up housekeeping in a small house just North of the Randall farm, and across the road on County Rt. 17. There the children were all born. About 1955 they bought a farm on Jess Drive in Greenborough, which they lived in for about 3 years until it burned about September 1960. From there the family moved back on County Rt. 17 into a house owned by Vera Lodge Yerdon, the old McCollum place. They lived here until about 1969 when Ike bought a Trailor from son-in-law Bob Schmitt that they placed on the old land where the first house had set. Later additions were added to the place, and it is still retained by the family.
Ike was a well known hunter and trapper. He taught all of his sons to hunt, and the Autumn deer season still finds the Yerdon Men (and some women) gathered for the drives at the old homestead at 6195 County Rt. 17.
In his last year Ike lived in Oswego at the Harwood Nursing home. He is buried with his ancestors in the old Greenboro Cemetery.
