      Newspaper Obituary - March 17, 1909 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Port Ontario District - Frederick E. Lifts died at his home on the State road March 11 from the effects of a paralytic stroke sustained February 25. The funeral was held from the house Sunday. Rev. H. A. Lawrence of the Congregational church, Pulaski, conducted the services, assisted by the Free Mason fraternity, of which Mr. Lifts was a member. He was 58 years old and had always lived in this vicinity. A widow and one brother in the far west survive him. A profusion of flowers was in evidence and testified to the esteem felt for the deceased. A large concourse of people attended the funeral.
      Probate - Last Will And Testament - I, Frederick E. Lifts, of the Town of Richland in the County of Oswego and State of New York, being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish and declare this my last Will and Testament, in manner following, that is to say: First, - I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid. Second, - One half of all my real and personal property I give and bequeath to my wife, Eva Lifts, to have and to hold the same unto herself and to use and dispose of as she may feel disposed. I further hereby bequeath to my wife, Eva Lifts the use and control of all my property both real and personal during her natural life, and at the expiration of her life I will and bequeath the sum of five hundred dollars ($500) to my nephew John Lifts. The remainder of the one half of my estate both real and personal I give and bequeath to my nephew and namesake known as Freddie Lifts. And I hereby stipulate that should my death occurs before the said John and Freddie Lifts should arrive at the age of 21, twenty-one years the same shall be held in trust for them until they shall arrive at the age of twenty-one years. Lastly, I hereby appoint my wife, Eva Lifts and Edmund Brown executors of this, my last Will and Testament: hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name the twelfth day of January, in the year 1904. {signed} Frederick E. Lifts. We, whose names are hereto subscribed, Do Certify, that on the 12th day of January, 1904 the testator, subscribed his name to this instrument in our presence and in the presence of each of us, and at the same time, in our presence and hearing, declared the same to be his last Will and Testament, and requested us, and each of us, to sign our names thereto as witnesses to the execution thereof, which we hereby do in the presence of the testator and of each other, on the said date, and write opposite our names our respective places of residence. {signed} A.       Citation Notice, State of New York, Oswego County. Byron C. Seamans, of the Village of Pulaski being duly sworn, says that he is the Publisher of The Pulaski Democrat, a Newspaper printed and published in the village of Pulaski, County of Oswego and State of New York, and that the Citation Notice, of which the annexed is a printed copy, has been published regularly in said newspaper once a week for at least 7 weeks prior to the return day thereof.       The People Of The State Of New York, To, George W. Lifts, heir-at-law and next of kin of Frederick E. Lifts, late of the Town of Richland in the County of Oswego, New York, deceased, Greeting: Whereas, Eva Lifts and Edmund Brown, Executors named in a certain instrument in writing, purporting to be the last Will and Testament of said Frederick E. Lifts, late of the Town of Richland, in the County of Oswego, and State of New York, deceased, and relating to both real and personal estate, has made application to the Surrogate's Court of our County of Oswego, to have said instrument in writing proved and recorded as a Will of real and personal estate. You, and each of you are, therefore, hereby cited to appear before the Surrogate of the County of Oswego, at his office in the village of Pulaski, on the 13th day of May, 1909 at 10 o'clock in the forenoon of that day, then and there to attend the probate of said Will and such of you as are under age of twenty-one years are required to appear by your general guardian, if you have one, or if you have none, to appear and apply for one to be appointed, or in the event of your neglect or failure to do so, a special guardian will be appointed by the Surrogate to represent and act for you in proceeding.
      In Testimony Whereof, We have caused the seal of the Surrogate's Court of the County of Oswego to be hereunto affixed. Witness Clayton I. Miller, Surrogate of our said County of Oswego, at the City of Oswego, in the said County, the 22nd day of March, A. D., 1909. Torrey A. Ball, Clerk of the Surrogate's Court; Freelon J.       Surrogate's Court, County of Oswego, New York. In the Matter of proving the last Will and Testament of Frederick E. Lifts, deceased. State of New York, County of Oswego. Freelon J. Davis of the Village of Pulaski, in said County of Oswego, being duly sworn, says that he is twenty-one (21) years of age and upwards; that deponent did, on the 22nd day of March, 1909, deposit in the Post Office at the Village of Pulaski, copies of the annexed printed Citation and of the annexed Order, enclosed in an envelope properly sealed with the lawful postage thereon, prepaid, directed to the person named in the said annexed Order as follows, viz., To George W.       At a Surrogate's Court held in and for the County of Oswego, at the Surrogate's Office, in the City of Oswego, on the 22nd day of March, A. D., 1909. Present, Hon. Clayton I. Miller, Surrogate. In the Matter of Proving the Last Will and Testament of Frederick E. Lifts, deceased. It appearing to the satisfaction of the Surrogate of the County of Oswego, New York, by the affidavit of Eva Lifts and Edmund Brown, Executors named in the last Will and Testament of Frederick E. Lifts, late of the Town of Richland, in said County, deceased, the petitioner herein, now on file in the Surrogate's Office of said County, that the following named persons are heirs-at-law or next of kin, of said deceased, or are otherwise necessary parties to the proceedings for the probate of the last Will and Testament of said deceased, now pending before the Surrogate of said County, and are severally non-residents of the State of New York, and that they respectively reside at the several places set opposite their names respectively, to wit: George W. Lifts, Tonopah, Nevada. It is ordered that the service of the citation in this matter be made upon each of the aforesaid non-resident heirs-at-law, next of kin, or other necessary parties to this proceeding, by the publication of the said citation in the newspaper called the Pulaski Democrat and also the newspaper called the Mexico Independent both printed and published in the County of Oswego, New York, once in each week, (in each of said newspapers), for six successive weeks, and it is further ordered and directed that on or before the day of the first publication of said citation, said petitioner deposit or cause to be deposited in the Post Office at Pulaski, Oswego County, New York, for each of the aforesaid non-resident heirs at law, next of kin of said deceased or other necessary parties to this proceeding, a copy of said citation and a copy of this order, securely enclosed in a post-paid wrapper, such copies being directed on the outside thereof to the aforesaid respective non-resident heirs at law and next of kin, or other necessary parties to this proceeding, at their several places of residence herein before stated; or, by causing a copy of the said citation and a copy of this order at least thirty days before the return day thereof, if served within the United States, or at least forty days before the return day thereof, if served without the United States, to be delivered to, and left with each of the aforesaid non-resident heirs at law, next of kin, or other necessary parties to his proceeding, personally, without the State of New York, or such of them as said petitioner desires to have personal service made upon. {signed} S.
