      The death of Herndon Lowery, aged 74, occurred Friday afternoon at 2:30 at his farm home on the Ore Bed road. Mr. Lowery had been brought home the day before from the E. J. Noble hospital in Canton where he had undergone a serious operation on March 26.

      Mr. Lowery was born in Hermon September 13, 1880, a son of Franklin and Ora Reed Lowery. He had been a farmer all his life and had resided for 42 years on the Ore Bed road farm. Mr. Lowery was twice married. His first wife of Lucina Priest, whose death occurred in 1935. On June 23, 1937 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Catherine Hand of Hermon in a ceremony performed at St. Raphaels rectory at Heuvelton by the Rev. Harold Mattan.

      Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Catherine Lowery; a son, harold Lowery, a junior in the Hermon-DeKalb Central school residing at home and two daughters by his first marriage, Mrs. Cliff (Bernice) Dashnaw of Watertown and Mrs. Leon (Esther) Bice of Pyrites; four step-daughters, Mrs. Letore (Kathleen) Goria, Mrs. Milton (Eleanor) Rowell, both of Nyack NY; Mrs. Leo (eileen) Derushia of Potsdam; Mrs. Bernard (Ursula) Coffee of Pyrites, three step-sons, John Hand of Massena; S SGT Robert Hand in the air force in Japan and Earl Hand of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother, Raymond Lowery of Plymouth, Mich; 15 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
