James H. Colwell
Although in failing health for the past five years, the sudden death of James H. Colwell has cast a gloom over our neighborhood. On Tuesday afternoon, July 5, about 5pm, as Mr. Colwell was about to scale some fish, he suddenly collapsed. His daughter-in-law was near and summoned her husband, but he passed away from a heart attack before medical aid could reach him.
Mr. Colwell was born in the county of Tyrone, Ireland, seventy years ago, and came to this county at the age of 18 years, and had lived in this vicinity all his life. He was twice married, his first wife was Edith Ellis. Six children were born to this union, Loverna, Minerva, Mary Ann, Robert, James, and Roderick. Mrs. Colwell died Dec. 14, 1911. In February 1914, he married Mrs. Angie Eastman, who died five years ago.
Since the death of his second wife he made his home with his youngest son James. Four children survive him; Mrs. Mary Christman, Roderick, Robert and James, all of Ellisburg; five sisters, Mrs. Martha Howard and Mrs. Jennie Brown of Mannsville, Mrs Minnie Cronk of Ellisburg, Mrs. Maggie Wilcox of Camillus, and Mrs. Suzanne Hadden of Ithaca; also two brothers, Hamilton of Ellisburg, and Thomas of Tappan, NY.
Funeral services were held at the home of the son, James, Friday pm, July 6, with burial in Ellisburg cemetery.

Funeral services for James H. Colwell who passed away Tuesday afternoon were held at the home of his son, James T. Colwell, Friday afternoon, July 6, 1934, at 2 o'clock, Rev. Mr. Roupe of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating. Mr. Colwell died very suddenly, although he had been in failing health for the past five years. Death was due to a heart attack. Besides his sister, Mrs. Minnie Cronk and brother, Hamilton Colwell who reside near his home, the following brothers and sisters were called here by his death; Thomas Colwell and daughters, Mrs. Ruth Pfarrius and Mrs. Dennie Colwell of Tappan, New York; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wilcox of Camillus; Mrs. Susan Hadden of Ithaca; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Howard of Mannsville. Other relatives were Mr. and Mrs. Harold McKone and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tice from Pennsylvania.
