Newspaper Obituary - Sunday, February 5, 2006 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - The funeral for Ernest E. “Topper” Stevens, 73, of 1940 County Route 2, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Stevens died Thursday at his home. Calling hours will be 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He worked for more than 40 years for Crouse-Hinds Company, Syracuse, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Orwell Fire Department for more than 20 years and a member of Robert Edwards American Legion Post 358, Pulaski. Born June 17, 1932, in Orwell, son of Ernest and Hazel Simser Stevens, he attended school in Orwell and Sandy Creek and served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He married Carole Chisholm on January 21, 1955, in Orwell. She died April 1, 2003. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah Stevens, Baldwinsville, and Michelle and Serget Gionet, Alberta, Canada; two sons and their wives, Russell K. and Janet and Ernest R. and Kelly, all of Sandy Creek; three sisters, Harriett Hilton, Orwell, Amy Johnson, Reno, Nev., and Eva Holly, Mexico; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A son, Kevin, died in 1982. Donations may be made to Orwell Volunteer Fire Department.

Ernest E. "Topper" Stevens, 73, of 1940 County Route 2, Orwell, died Thursday at his home. Born in Orwell, son of Ernest and Hazel Simser Stevens, he was educated in Orwell and Sandy Creek schools.
He married the former Carole Chisholm on January 21, 1955, in Orwell. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He was employed over 40 years for Crouse-Hinds Co., Syracuse, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Orwell Fire Dept. for over 20 years and a member of Robert Edwards American Legion #358 in Pulaski.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Carole, on April 1, 2003, and by his son Kevin in 1982.
Survivors: two daughters, Deborah Stevens of Baldwinsville and Michelle (Serget) Gionet of Alberta, Canada; two sons, Russell (Janet) Stevens and Ernest R. (Kelly) Stevens of Sandy Creek; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Hariett Hilton of Orwell, Amy Johnson of Reno, NV, and Eva Holly of Mexico, NY.
Funeral Service: 7 p.m. Tuesday at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek. Calling Hours: 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Spring burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell.
