    • Newspaper Article - Wednesday, March 2, 1904 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Personal - Mr. and Mrs. Stephen M. Gurley have issued invitations to the marriage of their daughter, Clara, and Mr. Melzar Maurice Spink, Thursday, March 10, at five o'clock.

      Newspaper Article - Wednesday, March 16, 1904 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - SpinIc - Gurley - On Thursday, March 10th. at 1:30 o'clock, in the presence of fifty guests or more, occurred the marriage of Miss Clare M. Gurley to Mr. Melzer M. Spink, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen M. Gurley, on Park street. The house was prettily decorated with asparagus ferns, cut flowers and potted plants. The dining room was festooned with white crêpe paper around which asparagus ferns were twined, making a very pleasing effect and was the handiwork of Mrs. W. J. Peach. At the strains of a wedding march played by Miss Eva Lyman, of Adams, the bridal couple entered the parlors and stood under an arch decorated with green and a gilded horseshoe and were joined in holy wedlock by Rev. A. I. Ehle, pastor of the Baptist church. The bride was becomingly dressed in a white cashmere gown trimmed with allover lace and appliqué and caned a bouquet of white carnations. After congratulations were extended a delicious wedding supper was served at which Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Bonney, Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Bonney, Miss Ruby Butterworth, Miss Maud Conant, F. P. Hardy and Frank Brundage so pleasantly assisted. The wedding gifts were a willow rocker, a dining table and chairs, a decorated dinner and tea set, a water set, a toilet set, a white enameled bedstead, two dozen silver spoons, silver ladle, cut glass dish, berry spoons, two meat forks, two bedspreads, towel, lace handkerchief, tablecloth and napkins, a handsome celery dish, two salad dishes, two cake baskets, two doilies, silver crumb dish, Smyrna rug, book of poems, lamp, cash $11, cut flowers, ferns and an anonymous gift which caused much merriment. Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Spink took the evening train for Syracuse amid the showers of rice from their friends, the bride being attired in a blue traveling gown. After a brief wedding tour they will return to Pulaski, New York. The guests present were Rev. A. I. Bide, Rev. J. B. Felt and wife, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Betts and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. L.       Robert M. Spink, 76, of 7686 North St., retired director of the Oswego County Department of Weights and Measures, died this morning at the home of his daughter, Carol Fortin, in Mexico.

      The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home with the Rev. Elizabeth Mowry, pastor of Park United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Pulaski Cemetery.

      Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Oswego County Hospice, c/o Pulaski Court House, Pulaski, N.Y. 13142.

      Besides his daughter, Mrs. Fortin, he is survived by another daughter, Nancy Garnsey, Port Leyden; two sisters, Irene Spink, Pulaski, and Bessie Bingham, Winter Haven, Fla., and six grandsons.

      He was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Pulaski, a son of Melzar and Clara Gurley Spink. He was a 1935 graduate of Pulaski Academy. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 as a chief instructor at the Central School Flexible Gunnery, in Laudo, Texas.

      He married Kathleen M. Betts June 26, 1945, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Syracuse. She died Nov. 21, 1979.

      Mr. Spink was manager of the meat department of the Pulaski Super Duper Market from 1960 to 1976. He was also director of the Oswego County Department of Weights and Measures for 10 years, retiring in 1985.

      He was a member of Park United Methodist Church, Pulaski Masonic Lodge 313, Pulaski Robert Edwards Post 358 of the American Legion, and the state Weights and Measures Association.
