      Maurice J. Hurd - November 1, 1910 - December 10, 1989. Son of John and Mary Fry Hurd. Husband of Alma L. Gilbert Hurd. Married August 2, 1935.

      Newspaper Obituary - Monday, December 11, 1989 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Maurice J. Hurd Sr., 79, North Road, R.D. 2, was pronounced dead on arrival Sunday at the emergency room of the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, after being stricken at Park United Methodist Church. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Park United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Elizabeth Mowry, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Donations may be made to Park United Methodist Church or to Northern Oswego County Ambulance, P.O. Box 123, Oswego, 13142. He is survived by his wife, Alma L.; a son, Maurice J. Jr., Sandy Creek; two daughters, Mrs. Ann M. Gibbs, Pulaski, and Mrs. Mary E. Patterson, Cresson, Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Anson C., Pulaski. A brother, Dr. Merrill Hurd, a past superintendent of the Brownville-Glen Park Elementary School, died before him. Born in Pulaski on November 1, 1910, son of John and Mary Fry Hurd, he was graduated from Pulaski Academy in 1929. He was manager of the Victory chain store, and was also employed by the George March meat market and by the A.S. Wagner grocery and meat market, Lacona. He married Alma C. Gilbert on August 2, 1935, at Sandy Creek, with the Rev. Walter S. Dobbie officiating. Mr. Hurd owned and operated a dairy farm for 46 years, and owned and operated a small-engine repair business for many years. He also owned sawmill property until 1968, and was employed by the Oswego division of Hanunemrill Paper Company, Sandy Creek. He was Sandy Creek town justice from 1966 until his retirement in 1976, and was a professional musician in the area for many years. Mr. Hurd was a member of the Park United Methodist Church, Sandy Creek Lodge 564 F.&A.M. and the Retired Senior Volunteer program (RSVP), and was a member and past master of Pulaski Grange 730.
