      Howard Goodwin

      November 12, 2012

      W. Howard Goodwin, age 89, life resident of Pulaski, passed away Monday. Howard was born November 11, 1923, in Port Ontario. He graduated from Pulaski Academy High School in 1941. Howard was a World War II veteran, and served as a sergeant in the 2140th Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945, where he was crew chief for the maintenance of B-24 Liberator Bombers across Central Europe. Following the war, Howard married his wife of 66 years, Thelma K. Fraser, on June 11, 1946. He was employed as an auto mechanic for Johnny Snyder in Pulaski. He was later employed by D.W. Winkelman Construction Company as a sales and serviceman for heavy equipment for many years, and he also worked for Mid-State Industrial Supply in Syracuse.

Howard was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus and a 50-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He enjoyed square dancing with Thelma and tending to his large vegetable garden well into his late 80s. He was a “jack-of-all-trades” - there was nothing that he couldn’t build or fix. Howard was the supportive and loving father of three daughters as well as a devoted grandfather of four grandchildren.

Surviving: his wife, Thelma Fraser; his daughter, Patricia Goodwin of Rochester; his daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Gary Holthouse of Oswego; his daughter and son-in-law Margaret and Richard Kolenda of Oswego; four grandchildren, Russell Holthouse, Sally Holthouse-Barlow, Steven Kolenda and Emily Kolenda; and one great-granddaughter, Mira Holthouse. He is also survived by his brother, Jack, and two sisters, Genevieve McAfee and Rosemary Ciocca. He was predeceased by his brother, Jim, and sister, Barbara.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Our Light Parish, 23 Niagara Street, Pulaski, with burial in Pulaski Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski.
