      Newspaper Obituary - Monday, July 29, 2002 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Wyon A. Taplin, Carpenter -Wyon A. "Hap" Taplin, 80, of 186 Canning Factory Road, died Saturday in Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where he had been a patient since July 22. Mr. Taplin was a carpenter and worked for Carpenters Union Local 747, Oswego, retiring in 1977. Born September 19, 1921, in Richland, son of Wyon and Doris Wheeler Taplin, he attended schools in Richland and Pulaski. He was a World War II Army veteran and received two bronze stars. He married Doris Martin on December 1, 1939, at Richland, and resided most of his life in Richland. Mrs. Taplin died January 20, 1980. He was an honorary member and former chief of the Richland Fire Department, and a former Boy Scout leader. Surviving are twin sons and their wives, Wade and Linda, Conover, North Carolina, and Wayne and Jean, Richland; a longtime companion, Barbara Lyman, Richland; three brothers, James, California, Francis, Sandy Creek, and Vardon, Port Byron; three sisters, Varda Teska, Pulaski, Lavina Johnson, Williamstown, and Maryetta Whaley, California, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A sister, Wyona, died before him. A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Richland Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek. Donations may be made to the Richland Volunteer Fire Department, Main Street, Richland, New York 13144.
