    • Claude was a World War I Veteran. He served also 2 years in the Panama Canal Zone. He returned home and took a job for the Telephone Company as a lineman. He later worked for Blount Lumber in Sandy Creek as a Glazer and glass cutter.

      Newspaper Obituary - September 5, 1997 Watertown Daily Times - CLAUDE R. TAPLIN RETIRED GLASS CUTTER - Claude R. Taplin, 99, of 36 Hadley Road, died Thursday at his home. Mr. Taplin was a glass cutter at Blount Lumber Co., Lacona, for 30 years, retiring in 1962. Previously, he was a lineman for several years at General Telephone Co. and Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. Born Oct. 27, 1897, in the town of Redfield, son of William and Alberta Yerdon Taplin, he attended Sandy Creek schools and served in the Army from 1917 to 1919 and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. Mr. Taplin was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Cable Trail Post 8534, Lacona, since 1955 and Sandy Creek United Methodist Church He married Doris Bettinger on June 25, 1927, at Sandy Creek. The couple lived all their married life in Sandy Creek. Mrs. Taplin died April 19, 1985. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy A. Bennett, Sandy Creek; four granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. The funeral will be at 1 p.m Sunday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the Rev. Roger Bell officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2 to 5 p.m Saturday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Northern Oswego County Ambulance, Delano Street, Pulaski, N.Y. 13142.
