      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 13, 1976 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Elwin C. Adams Dies; Was Trade School Head - Ogdensburg - Elwin C. (Jack) Adams, 72, 405 Canton Street, former principal of the George Hall Trade School, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hepburn Hospital, following surgery. He had been ill four years. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ogdensburg Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are from 7 to 9 this evening and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Donations may be made to the Ralph Wiber Memorial Scholarship Fund at Ogdensburg Free Academy. Surviving are his wife, Maple; two sons, Don F., a senior park historian with the National Park Service in the Virgin Islands, and Richard J., assistant director of the Genesee State Park Commission, Dansville; five grandchildren, and a sister. Mrs. Owen (Mildred) McNett, Dansville. born at Woodsville near Pulaski, December 14, 1903, son of John and Lucinda Colvin Adams, he was graduated from Pulaski High School and Oswego Normal School. He held a bachelor's degree from Buffalo State University and a master's from New York University. Mr. Adams came to Ogdensburg in 1929 after organizing the first trade and vocational education program in Maryland, at Hagerstown. He taught the first high school shop classes here. When the George Hall Trade School was established in 1937, Mr. Adams served as its first principal, a position he held until his retirement in 1965. During World War II he was director of War Industries Training Class held at the school, operating 24 hours per day for 4 'A years. More than 1,000 men were trained for skilled work in war production plants and for the military service during that time. His first wife, the former Anna Shepard of Pulaski, died in 1938, and he married Maple Wolfe in 1940. She operates the St. Lawrence Antique Shop in partnership with Mrs. Lawrence Green. Mr. Adams was a past president and honorary member of the Ogdensburg Rotary Club, a member and past master of Ogdensburg Lodge 128, F&AM, a charter member of the Ogdensburg Little Theater Group, and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
