    • Alice Estelle Willet Purdy - April 2, 1857 - June 24, 1930. Daughter of James and E. C. Willet. Wife of Rev. George Denniston Purdy.
Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, July 3, 1930 Fayetteville Bulletin - Fayetteville, New York - Mrs. A. E. Purdy Passes Away - Devoted Her Life to Christianity - Was 73 Years Old - "She hath done what she could" was the benediction on a life of a great Bible woman. This could be truly said of the life of Alice Estelle Purdy, who passed away Tuesday evening, June 24th at 11 p.m. Although in failing health for some time, yet the end came suddenly after a few days illness with pneumonia. Mrs. Purdy was born in Schuyler County, New York, and at the age of 18 was graduated from Seneca Academy of Music. On January 1, 1880, she was married to George D. Purdy, son of Isaac Purdy, of Yates County, New York. As a minister's wife she was unexcelled in her devotion to both the cause of Christ and her companion. For 24 years she with her husband worked among the people of Jamaica, B. W. I., where she assisted in the work of four churches, organizing thirteen auxiliary societies and mission bands in the Mission Stations of the United Christian Missionary Society. Her poor health caused their return to America in 1921, and after a year's rest, they were called to the pastorate at Brewerton, New York, where they served during the completion and dedication of the Church of Christ there. In November, 1922, they organized the church on the Cattaraugus Reservation. The pastorate at Pompey witnessed her last service for Christ, and she went "home" on June 24 in her 731d year. Funeral services were held Friday, June 27. After a short prayer service, led by Rev. George Doust at the Pompey Christian Church, the funeral moved on to Richland, where Rev. B. S. Ferran conducted an impressive service. Interment was in Richland Cemetery.
