    • Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 17, 1859 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died of typhoid fever, in the town of Mexico, Oswego Co., New York, January 28th, 1859, William Augustus Sampson, aged 26 years, 3 months. The subject of this sketch was born and reared on the spot from which he took his exit, we trust, to find a new and happier home above. He was a young man of fine intelligence, cultivated habits and generous sentiments, to which were added the adornments of a meek and humble Christian spirit. By these sterling qualities he was endeared to all, and occupied a large place in the confidence of all with whom he mingled. Little less than three years ago he was united in marriage to an amiable and Christian lade, who had been reared in the family of Mr. Walker, of Union Square, of whose companionship he was deprived by death one year ago this present month. She was the idol of his fondest affections, and her dying counsels, sank with melting influence into his heart. Bereft thus of the light and joy and hope of his earthly pilgrimage, he learned the frailty of this passing life, and at once commenced a search for durable riches, from which he gave himself no rest till he found the "pearl of great price." Having found "peace in believing and joy in the Holy Ghost," his affections were transferred with their cherished object from earth to the home of unbroken ties above, and he entered with increasing zeal and fervor upon the mission of a Christian disciple, and labored with much success in the vineyard of his Lord, till called to his account. He fell in the midst of his years, but fell with his armor on. A large community feel and mourn his loss, while doting parents and a sorrowing brother are left to finish their journey alone; but our hearts respond.
