William J. Eckhoff Sr., 72, of Bethlehem Township, died Wednesday, March 22, in St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Lois (Sprake) Eckhoff who died in 1997.
He was a boiler tender for Gracedale, Upper Nazareth Township, for 12 years before retiring in 1992. Previously he taught refrigeration, air conditioning, plumbing and heating at the vocational-technical schools of the Bethlehem School District, 1972-80, and the Easton Area School District, 1962-72. Before teaching, he worked in maintenance for the former Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 10 years.
He was a graduate of Temple University, Philadelphia.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Frederick and Regina (Meyers) Eckhoff.
He was a member of Fritz Memorial United Methodist Church, Bethlehem.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion Post 397, Hellertown.
Survivors: Daughter, Karen ,wife of John Higgins of Moscow, Lackawanna County; sons, Charles LaBella of Troy, Ohio, Maurice LaBella of Lady Lake, Fla., William J. Jr. of Bethlehem Township, 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services: 5 p.m. Friday in the church. No calling hours. Arrangements, Robert A. Hauke Funeral Home, Coplay.
