- Newspaper Obituary - August 26, 1902 Oswego Daily Palladium - Mrs. Lighthall, mother of Henry Lighthall, died on Friday morning at the home of her son, from cancer. Mrs. Lighthall was well advanced in years. The date of the funeral will be announced later.
Newspaper Obituary - August 27, 1902 Pulaski Democrat - Martha S., widow of James Lighthall, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. John Greenwood, North St., at 6 o'clock last Thursday evening, aged 62 years. Mrs. Lighthall, who was a most estimable woman, had been confined to the house since December last. She was a daughter of Benjamin Stewart, who passed away several years ago. Five children survive, three sons and two daughters, Frederick Lighthall, of this town; Henry Lighthall, of Orwell; Esic Lighthall, of Richland; Mrs. Oron Tryon, who resides in this town, and Mrs. John Greenwood, at whose home she died. She also leaves two brothers and a sister, Phineas Stewart and Esic Stewart, of this town, and Mrs. Caroline Baker, of Orwell. The funeral was largely attended from the home of Mrs. John Greenwood, who lives on the North road, at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. William H. Seed, pastor of the Methodist church at Orwell, officiating. The text, which was selected by the deceased during her last illness, was from Hebrews, 11:10. During the service "Gather We Shall at the River" and "Looking This Way" was rendered by Mr. and Mrs. William H. Sharp, Mr. and Mrs. John Frary and Mrs. Horace Farrington. Mrs. Royal Whitney was the organist. The floral tributes were numerous and handsome and consisted of a beautiful pillow of white lillies, a handsome floral cross and two large wreaths, from relatives and friends of the deceased. The bearers were three sons and a son in law, Fred, Henry, and Esic Lighthall and Oren Tryon. Burial was at the Pulaski cemetery.
