      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 30, 1944 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Elizabeth L. Austin Dies Suddenly - Miss Elizabeth L. Austin passed away suddenly at her home early Monday a.m., March 27. She was born in Pulaski, December 26, 1868, the daughter of W. Fayette and Alzina Nichols Austin and has lived most of her life in Pulaski. She attended Pulaski Academy and Oswego Normal; was graduated from Utica Conservatory of Music in 1896; studied the Fletcher Simplex Music Method in Boston in 1906; studied violin at Syracuse University, and spent several summers in Chautauqua where she studied piano under Ernest Hutchinson. In 1917 and 18 she studied at Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland. She taught school a few terms and then took up her life work as a teacher of piano, violin and cello, which she has continued since then, having a class of 40 pupils at the time of her death. She was a member of Pulaski Methodist Church, being a teacher of the Maunder class for many years, a charter member of Pulaski chapter No. 159, O.E.S. and an active member of the National Guild of Piano teachers of the United States of America. She is survived by a foster daughter, Joanne Austin; a niece, Mrs. F. Clayton Clark; and two nieces, Betty and Doris and a nephew, William living in Canada and a nephew, Harold with the United States Marines in the South Pacific, all children of the late Fred F. Austin. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., Rev. W. A. Gardner, officiating. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery.
